DPLL 10-11-12 All Stars Win District 14 Title! 

DPLL 7 – Windermere LL 1

The undefeated DPLL All Stars came into Tuesday’s District Championship Game as the visitors and saw the game start off as a defensive and pitching duel.  In the first inning both teams started off strong defensively.  DPLL had one base runner from a Windermere walk, but the inning ended before the runner could advance.  DPLL starting pitcher Aidan M. struck out the Windermere side in the bottom half of the frame answering the defensive challenge.

Windermere countered by retiring the side 1-2-3 in the top of the second.  DPLL’s defense came alive in the bottom half of the inning.  After allowing their first baserunner on a walk, with one away Windermere hit a hard ground ball to Shakir R-M. who threw a bullet to second, where Brody C. made a perfect turn and throw to first to complete the 5-4-3 double play retiring the side. 

Dr. Phillips drew first blood in the top of the third.  Kingston E. walked and Javier C. hit a hard single advancing Kingston to third.  Javier stole second, trying to bait a throw from Windermere’s catcher who didn’t bite.  In the end, it wasn’t necessary as Brody C. showed his skills on the offensive side of the ball when he launched a double to right that he was able to stretch all the way home due to a throwing error by Windermere driving in Javier and Kingston.  Suddenly, DPLL had a 3-0 lead which they would never relinquish. 

Riding their offensive surge, the DPLL defense was again the story in the bottom half of the third inning.  Windermere’s leadoff batter reached on a call of catcher’s interference.  After their next batter struck out, Windermere hit a line shot to shortstop Diego D. who made the catch and a snap throw to first for DPLL’s second inning ending double play.

In the top of the fourth, DPLL padded their lead.  Jackson G. reached on a bunt single and advanced to second on a bad throw.  He then promptly reached third on a wild pitch.  Jeremy C-H. drove Jackson home on a ground out.  Josh G. reached on a walk and Brody C. reached on an error, but the boys in blue couldn’t capitalize, stranding two. 

The bottom of the fourth led to another “web gem” moment for Kingston E. and DPLL’s third double play of the game.  With no one out Windermere managed two baserunners through a walk and a hit by pitch.  Windermere then hit one into foul territory where Kingston made a circus catch.  Windermere decided to challenge the left fielder’s arm and Kingston made them pay, firing a perfect throw to third nailing the runner for the second out.  Windermere grounded to the pitcher for the third out, stranding a runner on second. 

DPLL chased Windermere’s starting pitcher in the top of the fifth.  Although all three DPLL batters hit the ball hard, Windermere’s outfielders made great plays to retire the side in order. 

Aidan M. had a no-hitter going into the bottom of the fifth and the defense had only faced one more than the minimum number of batters.  Windermere finally broke through with a leadoff double.  Their runner advanced to third on a ground out and eventually scored on their second hit of the game, a double to centerfield.  The DPLL ended the threat catching a fly ball to center. 

Knowing they may need some insurance runs, DPLL started the final frame with a monster double that barely stayed in the park by Shakir R-M.  Cameron W. followed with a hard single to center scoring Shakir and advanced to second on the throw, and making the score 5-1.  Jeremy C-H. was up next and after a hard hit to short, raced to first beating the throw for an infield hit.  Javier C. grounded out, scoring Cameron W. and giving DPLL a 6-1 lead.  Kingston E. came in to run for Jeremy C-H. and scored on a Texas-League single to right by Austin P. and closing out the DPLL scoring with a 7-1 lead. 

With a complete game in sight, Aidan M. entered the bottom of the sixth having thrown 76 pitches.  After a lineout to center, Windermere tallied their third hit of the game with a single to center.  Aidan M. then closed out the game much like he started it, striking out the final two batters for his seventh and eighth K’s of the game, and bringing another District 14 championship banner home to DPLL.

This is the second time in three years this group brought home a District title to DPLL. The win was truly a team effort with eight different batters getting hits and five different players knocking in runs.  The defense was stout allowing only three hits.  The team finished the tournament outscoring their opponents 28-7 in three games.  They now advance to the Sectional tournament in Oviedo, July 12-15. Mark your calendars, tell your friends and relatives and block off some time to come up and see this great group of boys play some incredible baseball.

Dicen que la ofensiva gana partidos pero la defensa gana campeonatos. El martes por la noche, detrás de una defensa increíble, Dr. Phillips Little League 10-11-12 All Stars ganó el Campeonato del Distrito 14 con una victoria de 7-1 sobre Windermere Little League. DPLL avanza al torneo de la Sección 5 a partir del 12 de julio de 2019 en la Liga Pequeña de Oviedo.

El invicto DPLL All Stars llegó al Juego de Campeonato del Distrito del martes como visitantes y vio que el juego comenzaba como un duelo defensivo y de lanzamiento. En la primera entrada ambos equipos empezaron fuertes a la defensiva. DPLL tenía un corredor base de una caminata de Windermere, pero la entrada terminó antes de que el corredor pudiera avanzar. El lanzador abridor de DPLL, Aidan M., golpeó el lado de Windermere en la mitad inferior del cuadro respondiendo al desafío defensivo.

La parte inferior de la cuarta llevó a otro momento de "joya web" para Kingston E. y la tercera doble jugada del juego de DPLL. Cameron W. siguió con un sencillo duro al centro anotando a Shakir y avanzó a segunda en el lanzamiento, y puso el marcador 5-1. Jeremy C-H. fue el siguiente y luego de un golpe fuerte a corto, corrió para primero batir el lanzamiento para un golpe en el cuadro. Javier C. conectó a tierra, anotó a Cameron W. y le dio a DPLL una ventaja de 6-1. Kingston E. entró a correr para Jeremy C-H. y anotó en un sencillo de Texas-League a la derecha por Austin P. y cerrando el marcador DPLL con una ventaja de 7-1.

Con un juego completo a la vista, Aidan M. entró al final de la sexta con 76 lanzamientos. Después de un lineout al centro, Windermere anotó su tercer hit del juego con un sencillo al centro. Aidan M. luego cerró el juego como lo inició, ponchando a los últimos dos bateadores por su séptima y octava K's del juego, y llevando a casa otra pancarta de campeonato del Distrito 14 a DPLL.

Esta es la segunda vez en tres años que este grupo trajo a casa un título del Distrito a DPLL. La victoria fue realmente un esfuerzo de equipo con ocho bateadores diferentes recibiendo hits y cinco jugadores diferentes golpeando carreras. La defensa fue robusta permitiendo solo tres hits. El equipo terminó el torneo superando a sus oponentes 28-7 en tres juegos. Ahora avanzan al torneo Seccional en Oviedo, del 12 al 15 de julio.
